Mondelez launched a limited-edition line of themed Chips Ahoy cookies as part of a special campaign tied to a major series finale. While the campaign excited fans, it also brought a tricky challenge behind the scenes: integrating Shopify orders with NetSuite through Celigo and ensuring smooth fulfillment through their 3PL.

About Mondelez: A Snacking Giant with Global Reach

Mondelez International is a global leader in snacks, home to iconic brands like Oreo, Toblerone, and Chips Ahoy. The company operates at enterprise scale, serving millions of customers across the globe through both traditional and digital channels.

Unmapped Bundles in Shopify Disrupted NetSuite Order Flow

For a special themed campaign, Mondelez launched a limited-time edition of Chips Ahoy cookies in both 1-pack and 2-pack formats. During the go-live, the team identified an issue related to product setup. The cookies were sold in 1-pack and 2-pack formats, but the 2-pack wasn’t configured as a bundle in Shopify.

This meant that when orders reached NetSuite and the 3PL, the system didn’t recognize the 2-pack SKU correctly. Without recognition of how to handle the item, the risk of inventory mismatches and fulfillment delays loomed large. And in a time-sensitive, fan-driven campaign, there’s no room for backend guesswork.

Navigating Inventory Complexities in Fast-Moving Campaigns

In high-stakes campaigns, even small backend misalignments can surface quickly on the customer-facing side. Customers don’t see what went wrong in the integration layer, they just see missed orders, delayed packages, and confusing communication.

For Mondelez, the risk wasn’t just technical. Every late shipment or missing SKU erodes trust, especially when consumers are excited about exclusive products. And with enterprise volumes, even a small margin of error means thousands of affected orders.

That’s where tight alignment between SKU logic, eCommerce platforms, and fulfillment systems becomes critical.

Avoiding Manual Workarounds with Smart Automation

Without automation in place, teams would have needed to manually adjust orders, map SKUs, or intervene at the 3PL level. Over time, this introduces risk to inventory accuracy, fulfillment speed, and customer satisfaction, especially at the scale of an enterprise campaign.

By addressing the issue upstream through integration, Hairball helped Mondelez avoid these pitfalls entirely.

The Solution: Real-Time SKU Transformation Using Celigo

Hairball implemented a Celigo-based Shopify–NetSuite integration workflow designed to automatically resolve the bundle issue before it could cause damage.

Here’s how the transformation process worked:

  • A transformation rule converted each 2-pack order into two 1-pack SKUs.
  • This logic ran after orders were placed in Shopify but before they reached NetSuite, meaning no changes were required in Shopify.
  • Pricing and quantities were recalculated automatically to match fulfillment and financial records.
  • The flow ensured both NetSuite and the 3PL could process orders correctly, with no special handling required.

The flow handled:

  • Order creation from Shopify to NetSuite
  • Fulfillment sync from 3PL back to Shopify
  • Automatic customer deposit creation in NetSuite

This was all delivered within a 2-week window. On time, on budget, and without disrupting the campaign launch.

Smooth Fulfillment, Accurate Inventory, and Customer Satisfaction

Thanks to the transformation workflow:

  • Orders flowed through Shopify, NetSuite, and the 3PL without interruption
  • Stock remained accurate in NetSuite
  • The 3PL fulfilled orders as if the 2-pack never posed a challenge
  • Customer deposits were created automatically
  • No one needed to manually intervene or retrain staff

The campaign launched without a hitch. For customers, it was a fun, limited-time treat. For Mondelez, it was a flawless execution of an enterprise-grade eCommerce strategy.

By leveraging Celigo, Hairball streamlined the entire B2C eCommerce lifecycle, from Shopify order capture to NetSuite fulfillment and inventory sync, while resolving product data challenges at the SKU level and ensuring smooth 3PL execution.
